Supporting St Sidwell’s Community Centre

Every year in the spring we hold a quiz in aid of a charity with a connection to one of our team members. This year we raised money for St Sidwell’s Community Centre which is based in the centre of Exeter.

Our usual tried and tested, but never gets old, format returned for the 4th year running. We kicked off with a picture round followed by 6 question rounds, the themes of which included literary musicals, animal themed celebrity name anagrams and sequences. 8 teams of approximately 6 people each took part.

In a highly amusing turn of events, a number of teams struggled to accurately sort a series of sports balls from larges to smallest.

The question that was answered incorrectly across the board occurred in the film round;

“In which year (in the UK) did the following three films come out; Metropolis; It; College”

Most teams assumed ‘It’ was a version of the Steven King book, and not the Buster Keaton film from the 1920s. Cue lots of groaning when the answer was read out.

It was a close call at the end with the winning team (above) scoring 82 points, 3 above the second placing team who finished on 79 points.

About St Sidwell's

We were very lucky to have Olivia who works at the centre (right), come and talk to us about why the services provided so crucial to the local community.

“We are an independent community centre in the heart of Exeter giving a warm welcome regardless of background, ability or circumstance. We offer a wide programme of activities, events and services for the local community. We run a community café, a bakery and a cookery school; we grow vegetables and look after one of the few large green spaces in the city centre; we offer affordable meeting rooms and venue hire;  provide free ESOL classes; act as a local heritage hub for the Eastern quarter of Exeter city-centre; and offer volunteering and work-experience opportunities across all areas of our work.”
