Significance magazine article (Oct 2020): “A cutting re-mark”

One of the biggest national news stories of this summer was the controversy over A-level grades being “set by algorithm”, and Dr Tim Paulden – our innovation & development manager, and a governor at Exeter Mathematics School (EMS) – has had an article published in this month’s Significance* explaining what went wrong.

The article can be accessed freely until 5 November via the following link: https://rss.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/1740-9713.01436

Next month, Tim will also be delivering an Inspire outreach lecture to Year 12 and 13 students at EMS about the rogue algorithm, which will highlight some of the important ethical questions raised by algorithmic decision-making tools.
