Believe it or not there are olympic competitions that have not even started yet. Four of these events come under the cycling umbrella, the Men's and Women's BMX and cross country (we'll have some info on the last of these events, the Modern Pentathlon, tomorrow.) Team GB have a very good chance in the Women's BMX with us judging the top ranked rider over 60% to add another gold to the ever lengthening list. Read more

The reverse story to the weekend of GB success is the Russian team's shocking run of gold medal hopefuls. In the events decided so far (around 160 of them) we predicted that Russia had 18 teams or competitors with a greater than 20% chance of achieving the top spot.
As a group we expected this lot to grab 7 or 8 gold medals most of the time, how many gold medals have these hot shots managed to bag so far? Just one! (in yesterday's Greco-Roman wrestling 74kg category). The biggest upsets coming in the Women's weightlifting and Gymnastics. Read more

The Chalk, the Jolly, the Favourite. It's a precarious position for any team or athlete, you're expected to win, all the other competitors are gunning for you, second place just isn't good enough. And looking miffed whilst standing on a medal podium being given the silver can come across as serious sour grapes. Read more

After the impenetrable and seemingly totally random tactics and events of the cycling road races, today turns to a far more transparent Olympic cycling competition, the time trials. The wheelmen and women each pedal individually round a lengthy (44km for men, 29km for women) circuit of South West London beginning and ending at Hampton Court Palace. Read more
